Phoenix is One – BK Collection

Phoenix is a cute little guy! His mommy and daddy put a lot of thought into his session with clothing, toys, balloons and cake! Phoenix really warmed up in front of the camera and I’m excited to share the images from his session. It will be neat to see him grow in the years to come.

My first senior portraits | Reedley Senior Portrait Photographer

I’ve had the privilege of making tens of thousands of senior portraits, but I looked back in the archives today to see what my first senior portraits looked like. (Caveat: these aren’t literally the first senior portraits that I made. This may actually represent the second session. The first one was with a wonderful guy named Andrew, and took place on the beach in Quincy Bay south of Boston. But this is the first session I had the privilege of photographing after moving to California.) My subject’s name is Julian, and he’s a drummer. I don’t recall ever actually hearing him play, which is something I regret. But I remember the April sunshine and a mild spring day, and Julian’s willingness to work patiently with me to make senior portraits. Thanks to Julian (and his mom, Angie) for giving me the chance to work with you!

Wedehase Family | Kingsburg Lifestyle Photographer

Shinn Photo {hearts} the Wedehase family. We met at Jason and Rachel’s wedding, and we’ve been big fans ever since. So, naturally, when they asked if we could make some Christmas Card pictures, we were excited. They don’t go out of the house much, due to little Eli’s health. Eli has Holt-Oram Syndrome, also known as Hand-Heart Syndrome. It means he’s missing some genes, which has made life all kinds of tough for them. But they bear it with buckets of grace, radiant faith, and no small amount of humor. And Eli’s health, while part of their lives, is not the entirety of their lives. I think that may be what I admire most about them: their very graceful sense of balance. They have three beautiful children, each a gem. Yep, we like the Wedehases a lot. We hope you enjoy these pictures of them!

Finley and his mommy were visiting Auntie Tara in California last week. I had the pleasure of spending a bit of time one afternoon capturing him here in the studio. I had such a nice time with the ladies and Finley was a trooper! He did such a good job during his session and I’m excited to share his pictures with everyone back home! Enjoy!

Thanks for the opportunity to capture your sweet boy at nine months–it was perfect timing.

Senior Portait of the Day: Michael | Reedley Senior Portrait Photographer

I had a great time making pictures with Michael. I’ve known his girlfriend, Heather, for a few years. It was cool to get to know her favorite guy. Michael’s soft-spoken, considerate, and apparently he shreds a pretty mean axe, if you know what I mean. He’s got a style all his own, and I look forward to seeing where he goes in life!

This picture was a little bit of an experiment for me. I usually like really simple, clean compositions. But with this picture, I wanted to run the other direction and show off the chaos and mess of the studio in the middle of a session. This picture represents Michael pretty well to me. He seems to be calm and even-keeled, no matter what’s going on. He’s solid, just like he looks in the middle of this chaotic mess.
